Back to work blues

Start your day with a good breakfast

You know what they say about breakfast being the most important meal of the day. Start your day with a nutritious breakfast – just like you did during the holidays. You might have to get up a little earlier, but it’ll be well worth it.

Ease into it

Before you go on holiday, prepare a to-do list of everything you need to take care of in your first week back at work. That way, you won’t have to stress about forgetting anything during the holidays and when you get back into the office and you can ease back into the swing of things. Avoid your e-mail on day one as it’ll distract you from the more important tasks in your schedule and you’ll end up feeling overwhelmed.

Make a holiday soundtrack

There’s nothing like good music to conjure up holiday memories or liven up a bland day at the office. Create a playlist of all the songs that remind you of your holiday and set it on shuffle. That’s sure to help the hours pass faster.

Detox your desk

Now is the perfect time to clear out all of the clutter in your office environment. File or trash all old documents and files on your desk and computer desktop. Bring in a vase of fresh flowers or a souvenir from your holiday to your desk to remind you of better days. Sigh…

Meet up with your holiday buddies

The first week at work could make you feel as if your holiday never happened. By keeping in touch with friends you’ll not only have a constant reminder of good times, but you’ll also have someone to commiserate with now that you’re back at work.

Have something to look forward to

Start planning your next holiday as soon as you have a free minute. Book it and mark it on your calendar with a bright sticker. This way you’ll have something to look forward to and a visual reminder of what you’re working towards.

Make a fresh start

The New Year is the perfect time for a fresh start. So stick to your resolutions, give up bad habits and try new things. One great thing about the holidays is that you have plenty of time to take up fun classes and activities. Don’t stop partaking in them now that you’re back at work. Setting time aside to do the things you enjoy will instantly boost your self-confidence and lower your stress levels.
