Nothing says chic like a gorgeous manicure – and this season, nails take center stage. Here are the hottest nail trends for Autumn 2015.
Metallic French manicure
This season, one of the hottest runway trends is Metallic hues. Rich copper, silver and gold hues on nails exude luxury – and are a fun way to add a touch of glamour to your wardrobe. For an even bigger style statement, a geometric finish (top right) will look ultra modern in a blend of matte and glossy metallics.
You can forgo the French tips in favour of a geometric manicure. And it’s super easy to do! Apply a coat of white nail varnish and leave for at least 20 minutes to dry. Get creative with angles and lines in a variety of shapes and sizes. Experiment with the most vibrant shades of the season in glossy or matte tones and ta-da – you have on-trend digits.
Grungy goth and punk looks may not be in vogue, but black and rich dark nails are still in style. The perfect balance between edgy and chic, a matte or shimmery black colour is a make-up bag must-have. Stark shades tend to highlight chips or lumps, so make sure your nails are well looked after and neatly manicured. If black isn’t your colour, experiment with other dark hues. Think deep burgundy, marsala, aubergine, inky blues and rich dark chocolate tones.
Light nail tones will always be in style – and nudes are no exception. From rich cream to matte caramel hues, this look is the epitomy of chic. It’s the perfect colour option when you’re wearing a bright outfit, neon accessories or one of this season’s gorgeous prints. This low-maintenance look (with nude nails, chips are barely visible) also gives the illusion of longer, daintier hands. Wear a shade that is just a shade or two lighter or darker than your natural skin tone. The idea is to go with a shade close to your skin tone that has a beige undertone to it. You could also try the ombre nude trend (pictured above). Come day or night – this barely there look is a nail-colour must-have.
Tips for chic nails
1. Apply a base coat that will prevent your nails from changing their natural colour.
2. When your nails are dry, apply a top coat to protect your manicure.
3. Stop chewing your nails! Instead keep them short, file them regularly and apply a nail strengthening hand cream for dreamy digits.
